Getting Started with Michigan IT Mentoring

Mentors and mentees can choose the type of mentorship they would like to participate in, both types require the completion of the short virtual program orientation. The different types include:

  1. Sign-up
    1. Mentors
      1. Complete mentor sign up
      2. Create mentor Bio
      3. Review “what it means to be a mentor”. (Link)
    2. Mentees
      1. Complete mentee sign up
      2. Establish professional goals for the program
      3. Review “What it means to be a mentee”. (Link)
    3. *Please note: if you would like to participate as both a mentor and mentee, you will need to sign up twice.*
  2. Virtual Orientation: (5-10 Minutes, recorded) (Include Link here)
  3. Match is created
    1. Pairs (or groups) will be matched based on goals, experience and interest.
    2. Once the match is accepted on both sides, they will be notified and able to communicate.
  4. Meeting: Once pairs are assigned, Mentees are responsible for setting up meeting time with their mentors.
    1. Short-term mentoring, you are only required to meet one time.
    2. Long-term Mentoring, you are required to meet one time per month for up to 6 months.
    3. Note: You may meet more or less frequently based on your mentoring relationship!
  5. Feedback: Provided to the Steering Committee via Survey
  6. Next steps: Mentors and mentees can choose whether or not to continue their mentoring relationship after the matching period ends.
