The Michigan Software Directory: Enterprise-wide Discovery for almost 300 Software Tools

Link to presentation poster

Addressing a long-term issue at U-M, the Michigan Software Directory can help faculty, staff and students discover and get access to many of the software titles that they are entitled to use. It can help them find software that they may not even know they have entitlements to.

Members of Michigan IT can add software titles to the directory if they think it will help their end users find the software they need. They can also find out who else on campus may be running different titles and reach out to stimulate collaboration across the campus.

The U-M Software Directory is an easy to use and manage central library of software titles and packages available to faculty, staff, and students across all three campuses and Michigan Medicine.

Objectives

Learn how easy it is for end-users to discover software that they have access to an Michigan. Michigan IT colleagues are encouraged to become an editor on the Software Directory, add software titles and information about how users can get access to them through their unit, and promote the tool within their unit. We're currently soliciting ideas for a round of technical & user-interface improvements to the tool and welcome your feedback.
