Mcity Test Facility Tours

Register today to tour the Mcity Test Facility at the University of Michigan! 

Mcity is an interdisciplinary public-private partnership bringing together industry, government, and academia to transform mobility. As part of the U-M Transportation Research Institute Mcity helps advance safe and efficient transportation and mobility solution for the benefit of society. During this one-hour tour, participants will learn about the Mcity Test Facility, how it is used for rigorous real-world testing, and the innovative technologies being developed and evaluated on-site.

  • This tour is open to U-M Staff & Faculty who consider themselves part of the greater technology community at U-M
  • Tours take 1 hour and there is a limit of 50 participants per tour.
  • Meeting Spot: The Mcity Test Facility is located at 2909 Baxter Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48109. Once you are on Huron Parkway turn onto Baxter Road and there will be signs to guide you to the track entrance that is at the end of the road. Please arrive at the track entrance for the tour.
  • Parking: Parking is available in the gravel area across from the parking garages and along the access road. 
  • Arrival Time: Please arrive 10 minutes before the tour begins. Tour guides will meet you at the gate by 12. Gates will not open prior to 12 due to testing on the facility.
  • We will tour rain or shine, so dress for the weather! The tour is a short walking route around the facility. There are no stairs or obstacles and it is entirely paved. There is one portable restroom at the track entrance.

Duderstadt Center Tours

May 27, 2026 @ 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. | May 28, 2026 @ 10:00 a.m.

Join colleagues from the Michigan Technology Community (MTech) for a fun and informational tour of the Duderstadt Center on North Campus. The Duderstadt Center is a unique place like no other! Staff, students, and faculty have the opportunity to come and engage with advanced technologies, learn new things, and expand their experiences to build their academic and career future.

Tours will last 30-60 minutes (based on questions) and will include visits to the Groundworks Media Lab, Design Labs 1 & 2, Audio Studios, Video Studio, Personal Studio Fabrication Underground, Multimedia Rooms, Visualization Studio, and the Gallery. (Access may be limited if a specific space is in use.)

Big Ten Data Viz Championship

This is an opportunity for students at Big Ten institutions to showcase their data visualization skills and to compete for the title of Big Ten Academic Alliance Data Viz Champion. Students are given a data set and asked to produce a data viz for submission.

Hacks with Friends

The 12th Hacks with Friends (HWF) event took place on March 5 and 6, 2026, at the Ross School of Business.

Michigan IT Winter Innovation Expo

The Winter Innovation Expo was held December 10 at the Central Campus Classroom Building (CCCB). It showcased innovation from across the university, including a keynote address, poster session, and final presentations from the top four teams coming out of the Michigan IT 2024 Hacks with Friends.

The Tech Showcase & Social event spotlighted emerging technology across the university and provides opportunities to strengthen community bonds through numerous activities.
