Background
In 2012, a group of university leaders collaborated with the IT community to define a strategic vision that prioritized mission-aligned services. This effort led to the publication of a planning report incorporating more than 380 recommendations from the IT community, and the inclusion of the Michigan IT Community in the university’s IT Strategic Plan.
Following this, several initiatives were launched, including:
- An intensive on-campus leadership development program for over 100 top IT leaders and managers
- A university-wide IT Symposium featuring more than 100 posters and dozens of presentations highlighting the best of Michigan IT
- Dozens of peer-led communities of practice focused on specific, strategically aligned IT topics
- An annual hackathon designed to encourage rapid, cross-campus collaboration on pressing needs
In 2024, the Michigan IT Community was renamed the Michigan Technology Community in response to its expanding reach to the entire IT and tech community across the university.
