The University of Michigan is a member of the perfSONAR Consortium, whose goals are to develop and maintain open-source software to gather network performance metrics.

The University of Michigan has contributed features to perfSONAR from a large academic campus perspective. Topics have included tests for network services that we run, a Software Development Kit to extend perfSONAR's capabilities, WiFi monitoring, and other research topics.

perfSONAR as a campus service not only covers the high speed backbone, but campus units as well. We have a mobile service that can test networks on-campus, as well as testing throughput and latency to destinations around the world.

This year we are piloting a deployment of a WiFi monitoring system developed here at the University of Michigan that uses perfSONAR as a main component.
