MiQuizMaker: Randomized Canvas Quizzes the Easy Way

Presented by: John Pariseau | COE / CAEN

Abstract

MiQuizMaker is a tool collaboratively developed by Mosaic, CAEN, ADUE, and CRLT-Engin here at Michigan Engineering.

MiQuizMaker is a web-based tool for faculty members and instructors to generate and randomize quiz questions for eventual loading into Canvas. This tool allows faculty members to create a unique quiz or exam for every student in their class for each assessment topic. Once loaded into Canvas, the quiz or exam can be taken multiple times by the students, and they can receive immediate feedback on their performance. Also, as each quiz or exam is unique to each student for each attempt, the motivation and ability to cheat is severely reduced.

This is really excellent. Nice use of the QTI standards to help instructors generate randomized quizzes. I can't wait to try it out and take a peek at the data contained in the QTI exports.

It would be nice to have a gallery of example quizzes to experiment with. Maybe a set of example quizzes or even let users publish their quizzes that they want to share with others.

It may be important for the tool to support newer versions of QTI. Canvas may soon drop support for old versions of it.

Since QTI is a standard format and is supported by other LMSes, has it been tested with anything other than Canvas?
