Michigan Medicine Supply Chain Modernization

Presented by: Liz Lind & Cristine Little | ITS; Kristine Komives | Michigan Medicine

Abstract

The 2015 Value Margin Improvement for Supply Chain recommended that Michigan Medicine use existing enterprise tools (PeopleSoft and Epic), as well as procure additional vendor products to connect those tools, in order to improve supply chain operations. ITSOC approved this effort, and the project has accomplished the following:

  • Procured and implemented GHX, a cloud-based supply chain technology exchange platform, with PeopleSoft and our vendors which has modernized the entire procure to pay process.
  • Procured and implemented Syft software suite for warehouse, distribution and clinical processes which integrates our PeopleSoft and Epic solutions using a handheld device.

This project is currently implementing Point Of Use scanning software to modernize the tracking of supplies in the procedural areas, and implementing several improvements to standardize visibility and management of supply items.

These enterprise tools, connecting the PeopleSoft ERP to the Epic EHR, create a standard enterprise platform, with standard supply items, enabling consistent, enterprise supply chain processes and roles.
