Informatica Cloud at U-M

Presented by: Kranthi Bandaru | ITS

Abstract

Informatica Cloud is the cloud-based version of our current on-premise Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) product that is designed to perform large data operations. As more systems and services are moving to cloud hosting, our need to read from/write to a variety of cloud-based services is growing. In order to support future growth, our ETL product will need new connectors to support cloud services. The cost of those connectors for our current, onprem software is prohibitively expensive. Moving to Informatica Cloud would avoid that cost and also free up U-M support resources (i.e. Informatica will host the systems and services in the cloud, meaning we wont need physical systems running in the campus data center for this purpose.) In the ITS data vision, data is to be leveraged as an institutional asset. The move to Informatica Cloud would further centralize our ETL infrastructure and data extraction/loads, which supports the data vision.
