Be Our Guest: Using Friend Accounts, Social Login and Sponsorship for U-M Guests

Presented by: Victoria K. Green & Jennifer Love | ITS

Abstract

ITS provides several account options for people who are affiliated with U-M in unusual capacities — for example, summer program attendees, volunteers, and vendors. In this poster presentation, we'll explain the differences among the options and what questions to consider to help you pick the best fit for your situation. Come see us live to talk through what's best in your individual case or any problems you're having today.

Attendees will learn:

  • When a person's existing external account or a U-M friend account is the best option
  • What policies apply for appropriate use of Sponsored Affiliates
  • Which common services and applications are available to different Sponsored Affiliates types
  • How two-factor authentication applies to these accounts
  • What special considerations for minors you need to keep in mind

Great job on this poster! We've needed a simple, clear tool for helping people to understand the confusing array of identity management options. This flow chart will help people match their needs to the appropriate account type. If it has not already been captured as a TDX KB, we should consider adding it.
