Talk Data to Me: Insights from Search-based Analytics and Chatbots (Video)

2020 Michigan IT Symposium - November 10-12, 2020 - Innovative Solutions to Support the University Mission

Breakout Sessions: Tuesday, 2–2:45 p.m.

The Michigan Insights on Demand Program is changing the landscape on how the University accesses and uses data to make data-informed decisions. Our approach enables campus to ask natural language questions about U-M data and get answers back in real time. Chatbots, voice-assistants, and search-based augmented analytics tools provide end users with an easy to use platform that includes artificial intelligence, capable of discovering insights that answer questions they didn't think to ask.

Hear about Michigan's innovative approach to getting the right data into the right hands faster by enabling campus to ask natural language questions about U-M data and get answers back in real time.

See demos of the technology and hear about U-M's vision for the future state where:

  • Students, faculty, and staff have access to real-time and authoritative data via secure, role-based access.
  • Data consumers are focused on research, analysis, and decision-making, and not on databases, data architecture, and becoming experts in complex tools.
  • Central IT provides services, technologies, federated data governance, and support for data informed decision making capabilities that the University community value both now and in a rapidly evolving future.
