Transitioning Equipment Distrubution within a Pandemic RDS Covid-19 Equipment Drive Through

Presented by: Chad Horton | HITS

Abstract

In 2018, The Work-From-Home initiative was created as a way of supplying Michigan Medicine staff with the tools they needed to work from home. This included supplying workstations, monitors, accessories, and software packages to 850 Michigan Medicine Employees being redirected to work from home. With the emergence of Covid-19, Remote Device Support was able to convert the Work-From-Home Distribution Initiative into the Covid-19 Work-From-Home Equipment Drive Through Initiative. We were able to set up the East Arbor Lakes Parking lot as the main location. Everyday we configured our fleet vehicles accordingly, set up tents with tables, and placed cones down for traffic to be guided properly. Upon arrival, the staff member was greeted with a DSA that was wearing the proper PPE and was informed what they were receiving. One laptop was then handed to the customer and we proceeded to walk the customer through setting up their new workstation. With a collaboration between HITS Networking and ITS, we were able to extend Arbor Lakes WiFi signal to the parking lot. This allowed us to utilize the U-M network for first time sign on the new workstations. While one person was explaining the setup process another DSA was loading the customer's car with all of the proper equipment needed. This setup was able to offer a white glove experience for our customers that was truly contactless at a time that was very uncertain.
