Services, Workflows, and Stacks: UMich Software Engineer Chat

Presented by: Jeffrey Rosczyk | Health Communications, Michigan Medicine

The software development field has exploded in the past several years and engineers now have countless options to add tools, automations, and services into their projects. Let’s compare notes. This presentation will engage with the audience to chat about the following questions:

  • What is your current development workflow?
  • What tools/services are you using for automation?
  • Does your development environment differ from your production environment? How so? What tools are you using?
  • What is in your development stack?
  • What frameworks are you using?
  • Any tips, tricks, or experiences you learned worth sharing?
  • What technology do you think we all need to know about?
  • Where do you see higher education software development in 5 years? 10 years?

This is an opportunity for the siloed software engineers across UMich to talk shop with others outside their teams. The main objective is to compare notes and see how other software engineers approach similar topics; to change perspectives a bit and meet new faces (or voices).

This presentation will engage with the audience to address the following topics: development workflow, tools and services, automation, deployment, stacks, frameworks, tips and tricks, experiences learned, and the future of higher-ed web and software.
