Online Voting at The University of Michigan

Presented by: Janet Przybylski | ITS - EAS

Abstract

SimplyVoting is a Software as a Solution (SaaS) service that allows for online elections. With our recent need to have all IT tools and applications available online, SimplyVoting is an answer to many election coordinators' problem of being able to hold timely, accurate, and secure elections at U-M and Michigan Medicine.

The poster session will cover how it works. Including a sample ballot, how it is set up, how voting occurs, and how the results are published. The UM-branded site will be displayed along with explaining the authentication method, administration of the service, and certification of the results. The extensive flexibility in creating ballots fills almost every question being asked. Including being able to attach photos and descriptions of candidates, single winner or multiple winners, voting for write-in candidates, minimum and maximum number of candidates voters are allowed to select, instant runoff voting, cumulative voting questions, and many more options will be presented.
