Information for Michigan IT Symposium Presenters

The information on this page will answer your questions and provide guidance as you prepare your material for this event. As you plan and design your materials for this year’s event, please consider your audience and your intended communication objectives for your poster or presentation. The 2018 Michigan IT Symposium will take place on the Ann Arbor campus, beginning with the reception on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 28, at the Michigan League. We will kick-off the all-day symposium on Thursday, November 29, at Rackham Auditorium and move to the the Michigan League for the poster and breakout sessions by mid morning.

If you plan to attend any other part of the event outside the portion you are presenting, we ask that you please register to attend. Registration will open in mid-October at this website.

Notification of acceptance for Posters and Presentations will be made the week of September 3.

Poster Sessions FAQ

  • When does my poster need to be ready?
    Print-ready posters are due to the event committee by Friday, October 19.
  • What poster template should I use when designing my poster?
    All participants should use the poster template corresponding to their IT Strategic Plan goal:
  • Can I get someone to review my poster concept and provide feedback?
    Yes. Poster presenters are invited to submit a DRAFT of their poster by Friday, September 28. Send an email to [email protected] with “For Review: Draft ” in the subject with a link to your draft poster.
    Draft posters will be reviewed by Michigan IT Symposium planning committee members. We will provide feedback and suggestions back to you by the end of the day, Monday, October 8. Remember: A final version of your poster will need to be submitted to the Box folder by Friday, October 19.
  • Do I have to print my own poster?
    No. The event committee will handle all printing costs and logistics. Your poster will be set up and waiting for you at the event.
  • What time is the poster session?
    Poster sessions will take place the afternoon of Wednesday, November 28, (3:30–5:30 p.m.) and the morning of Thursday, November 29, (10:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.).
  • Can more than one person present a poster?
    Due to space limitations, we encourage only one presenter to stand with each poster. Additional representatives are welcome to attend the event, but should plan on participating in the poster session as an attendee. You may also have representatives take turns presenting.
  • Can I keep my poster?
    Yes. If you wish to keep your poster, please plan on taking it at the end of the day. Posters remaining after 5 p.m. on November 29 will be discarded.

  • Materials will not be reviewed for spelling or grammar errors. Authors should submit carefully written and proofread material.

Presentations FAQ

  • When does my presentation need to be ready?
    Presentations are due to the event committee by Wednesday, November 14.
  • Is there a presentation template I should use for this event?
    An optional presentation template is available (PowerPoint or Google Slides).
  • What time is my session scheduled?
    The event committee will contact you in early November with the time of your session.
  • What time should I plan to arrive?
    Please plan on getting to the room where your session is at least 15 minutes in advance of your scheduled session. This ensures the room host can show you how to use any A/V equipment and make introductions.
  • Will I be recorded?
    Some presentations may be recorded, but we are unable to record all of them.
  • Will I have power and/or internet access?
    Most rooms at the Michigan League are equipped with power strips and internet connectivity. Please contact [email protected] to request additional A/V equipment.
